RE: Where to go in Texas for winter months?

Hey fellow Okie, welcome to the forum. We have spent some time in Mercedes Texas at Llano Grande RV Resort & loved it. Not cheap but worth it to us.

RE: Considering trading the fiver for a class A

We moved from a truck & fiver to a Class A last year & would never want to go back. Set up is easier & the ride is much more comfortable. We love our "new to us" 2002 HR Endeavor. Good luck with your decision.

RE: What do u do?

He retired from Michelin Tire Co after 31 years of building tires & when he retired I quit my nursing job. Now we travel every chance we get, having just spent the summer in Alaska. Everyone says we are too young to be retired but we are loving it!!

RE: Port in a Storm, 2nd. verse!

We too offer our place as a refuge in the storm. We have full hook ups for our rv'ing friends that visit. We are in south central Oklahoma & all you have to do is let us know if you need a "site" in our yard. God Bless & safe travels. Becky & Mac

RE: Holiday Rambler Endeavor - Any Probs?

We have a 2002 HR Endeavor with the ISC 8.3 (330) CUmmins we bought last year & we love it. We are on the way home from a trip to Alaska & it has done great. Mileage has been between 7-9mpg, depending on the terrain. Good luck with your choice.

RE: Best Bet for Halibut ?

In Homer we recommend going out with Captain Josh at Bob's Trophy Charters. He was raised in Homer & knows the good spots. He put us on nice fish & everyone limited both days. Good luck.

RE: On The Road To Alaska

Cassiar is in good shape most of the way. From the Alaska Hwy down about 40-50 miles is rough but no worse that the Alaska Hwy around Kluane Lake. Go & enjoy the scenery.

RE: Alaska Highway Condition

Thanks for the replies. We came through from Glennallen to Whitehorse over the past 2 days & as stated above the roads were not perfect for sure but not nearly as bad as when we went up in May. Now if the Cassiar is not a nightmare we will be in good shape. Happy & safe travels to all.

Alaska Highway Condition

We are currently in Wasilla & will leave for Glenallen tomorrow. We were told by a fellow traveler that the Alaska Highway is TERRIBLE between Tok & Haines Junction. I know that area was bad when we came up in May but friends that traveled it last month said that the constuction that going on when we came through was complete & the road in good shape. Can someone shed some light on this so that we know what to expect prior to heading that way. Thanks.

Keeping batteries charged while boondocking

I need some advice from you seasoned boondockers. We are currently in Alaska & the places that we fish do not have areas/parks with electrical hook ups so we boondock most of the summer. My question is, how long daily should I run my generator to keep a good charge in my batteries? I certainly don't want to kill my brand new batteries. I would be grateful for any knowledgeable help. Thanks, Mac

RE: Installing Wood Floors in a RV???

We just put Pergo in our motor home & it was simple & went down fairly quickly. The most time consuming part was of course the cuts around the steps & such, but even that wasn't hard. Our flooring is a floating floor with the insulation attached so we just tore the tile out & laid the Pergo back in its place. I did put a couple of small nails around the slides to make sure the slide didn't catch on the wood as it was coming in. It turned out beautifully & we love it. If you laid flooring in your stick house you shouldn't have any problems in your rv, it's basically the same. Good luck. Mac

RE: It just got to be hurting, Can't be only regional.

We are in Homer Alaska right now & by FAR there are fewer rvs from the lower 48 than on any other trip we have been up here on. There are numerous rental units, but even they are not as numerous as before. I know it is early in the season but we have been here at this time for several years & there were always lots of rvs from down south. Guess we'll see as the summer unfolds.

RE: On The Road To Alaska

thecoates-
When we came through Canadian customs at Sweetgrass Montana a couple of weeks ago, we weren't asked anything at all about any food items just alcohol, tobacco & firearms. We were however asked about any foods we bought in Canada (which we had none) at the US Customs station coming into Alaska. Canadian customs can & sometimes does ask about food items but we have never been questioned about those things. The "rules" for going into Canada can be found at:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/rc4161-eng.html#P015
(Sorry I don't know how to make it clickable) Safe travels.

RE: Pictures on the wall

I have used 3M Command interlocking fastener strips on all of my pictures & even a heavier clock, they hold very well. Haven't had anything fall off the wall in miles of traveling, including the Alaska Highway! Becky
